Sommerville Flag History
Over fifty years ago, Ed Sommerville just turned 18 and had taken over a small shop on Memorial Drive in Appleton, WI. He got his company on its' feet by making neon tubing for other companies that produced neon signs. Within a few years he had expanded to making the full outdoor neon signs himself (he would later add plastic lighted signs). At the time, Ed and his company were covering a good portion of Wisconsin.
In 1980, Ed decided to add flags and flagpoles to his list of quality products and services. The shop on Memorial Drive then became Sommerville Sign and Flag. As the flag and flagpole business grew he phased out of the sign business and became Sommerville Flag in 1995. Over the years Sommerville has installed flagpoles all over the state of Wisconsin and flags have been shipped all over the country. Although the products and services have changed over the years, the quality of work and shop location have remained the same for over 50 years!!!
Ed's grandson Matt came on board in 2007 and is planning to carry on the fine tradition and work ethic of Sommerville Flag when Ed steps down. He is 26 years old and is currently working in sales, business, and installation.
